The trip to Devil Punchbowl...(Camp Series-Ep 2)

Devil's Punchbowl...no..no..no. It is not what you think it is.
It is not at all related to devils. It is completely different.
Comment down below what you think it is...Ok fine,
It is a really high waterfall situated between two humongous
mountains in Arthur's Pass. Have you visited it before?
Read on to find about the experience I had at Devil's
Punchbowl. By the way I am Albin and this camp series
Ep-2 that you are reading.

As you know Devil's Punchbowl is a waterfall located in Arthur's Pass. So we went on a walk to reach the top and see the waterfall. It was a really icy and cold walk. On the way there we experienced snowfall, but not the normal snowfall. This time snow and water was falling down from the tree even though it was not raining outside. It was really strange. Here is a fun fact about the waterfall for you. It is 131m high. It is as large as your football field at your school that has been laid vertically. Anyway here are some photos on the trip to the waterfall.

While walking through the tracks to get to the waterfall, it was extremely cold. Thankfully, I wore lot of jackets and gloves to keep myself warm. Have you gone there before? Have you at least been to Arthur's Pass before? If you are planning a trip then you should definitely visit this waterfall.

Have you been to Arthur's Pass before?
Do you have any upcoming camps that you are busting to tell about?
Have you gone one camp before?

Anyway that is it for today guys. Hope you enjoyed it.

Snow can be really icey (Camp Series-Ep 1)

A camp is something that I have never went on before, until 2nd of September. Yes that is true, we went on a camp on 2nd of september. It was a 3 day long trip. As I expected it was a ton fun. It was my first camp as well as my best camp. Oops...I forgot tell you where we went (silly me...). So went to Arthur's Pass for the 2 nights and 3 days. We did a lot of activities. So right now you are reading a blog series about camp. On this blog I would be writing about my trip to Arthur's Pass.

On the way there we made a stop at Castle Hill. It was covered with snow. I slipped twice in it. And also, it was my first time actually walking on snow. And that is not it. I can go on, but this not about me and snow. So castle hill is basically a hill. We stopped there for morning tea. We saw to people hanging from the stone. They must have been doing rock climbing. Have seen or touched snow before? You must have at least seen snow. Anyway we stayed there for maybe an hour or so. It was the first time I started getting tired of seeing snow. Anyway here is a dlo that I made, completely through Programming. Hover over these photos.

This our way to castle on the bus. It was a really, really, really comfy ride.

This is me with my friends

This is everyone in a group photo.

That is it for today guys. From now on I would add a bit of interactive stuff like these on most of my blogs.

What was your latest camp?

Where was it to? I am really sure it was fun.

Did you like this interactive bit that I added at the end of the blog? If you did then I will make sure to add more in the coming blogs.

I have a dream (Do I ?....)

Last year, around this time we had a speech competition. It was just 1 month after I came to New Zealand. When I heard about this I got really excited about it. It was because I have really changed since last year and I have said "GoodBye" to stage fright.

Before we get into all the deep learning and creating, we had a task to do to train our brain. In order to set up our mindset for speeches, we used the 6 tools in the Mental Toughness toolkit to create a motivational drawing of ourselves. Mental toughness tool kit is like tools that help you with mental toughness.

These are the tools:-

  • Positive thinking - Affirmations, thought stopping, self talk
  • Goal setting - Setting small goals and finishing it
  • Attentional control - managing interruptions, increasing    my attention span
  • Visualisation - intentional imaging
  • Anxiety control - controlled breathing, relaxation, distraction
  • Self awareness - reflection and feedback

We used google drawings and my DLO is below - a visualisation of me during my speeches learning. MY dream for how it will all go...

While I was creating this drawing I thought about how this is going to help me. Then I understood that if you are stuck with the speeches you could refer this drawing. The hardest part in the speeches would be to present it really well. But writing the speeches would be the easiest part. These tips can really help me because it matches with worries and problems really well.

Do you have speeches at your school?
Are you good at it? (If you are then suggest me some tips in the comments below. It would really help me)
Did you like the little joke that I added in the drawing? (The bottom right one)

Anyway give me some tips in comment below.

By the way you could use these sentence starters to make a quality comment...
  • Positive thinking:-  You are good at... / This is amazing because...
  • Thoughtful:- The facts that you have used is really good...
  • Helpful:- Next time you could...

And don't forget about a question at the end.

What is resilience? Some kind a new word that I made up? Is it?

Do you know what Resilience is? If you know, please comment down below about what you know.  Resilience is the ability to recover from hard times. It is just like a spring. When you stretch a spring, it expands. As soon as you leave it, it will bounce back. By after every time the spring bounces back, it will become a little bit bigger.

Anyway if you want a more clear explanation check out this dlo I made.

That is Resilience. I didn't know earlier.  I think that I am good at resilience. I always get back to work as soon as I am off task.

What about you?
Did you knew about it?
If you don't at least you know about it know, right?
Write down in the comments below what you think about resilience.

That is it for today guys. Hope you enjoyed it.

What is the difference between a normal comment and a quality comment...They do sound the same....

What is a quality blog comment? Yep, you guessed right. It is a normal comment but it is like an improved version. Do you know how to do write one? If you do know,  then post a quality comment to this blog. If you don't, then let me tell you how to write one.

By the way I am Albin from YMS. I am a Yr 8.

As you know a quality comment is a better version of the normal comment. So you start the comment by a really cool greeting like 'Malo e Lelei Marwah,' or 'Kia ora'. After that you need to introduce yourself. Once you have finished with your introduction it is time for you to start your awesome comment. After the introduction write a positive thing about the blog.
For example: if the blog has a dlo then you can write 'I liked your dlo'. After that write a thoughtful para. It means to make connection with you and the blogger.
For example: if the blogger has a cat then you can maybe write something like 'Oh yeah...I also have a cat at my house'.

Anyway I wanted to tell you about something else. Every tuesday we have a cybersmart lesson by Miss Morgan. Last week we started identifying what a quality comment is. We were divided into groups of three. Dion, Maddie and I were a group. (Here is link to Maddie and Dion's blogs.) We were given a few comments and were asked to make it better. Here is the slide.

Our best comment that we wrote was this one.

Do you think that this comment is really good?
Did you knew about quality comment before reading this blog?
What is going to be your favourite comment from the comment that we wrote?

That is it for today guys. Hope you guys learned something new form this blog.

Starting Incredibly Small is really effective...

Sometimes changing habits is really hard for me. Is it hard for you? Well after reading a few tips from James Clear, it is easy. Starting incredibly small is on of his tips. You must know what it means. It means start really small. For example reading a whole book in one day could be reading one page of it. But you must repeat it day after day until you have formed yourselves a habit of reading automatically. Then you can increase the pages. Here is a DLO I made about this topic. By the way I am Albin.

Starting incredibly small has helped me a lot. I have been able to develop lot of new habits. It is one of the few tips by James Clear. If you want to read more about him, click in this link. As you have read, consistency (meaning, doing something repeatedly) is all that matters.

Did you know about James Clear before reading this blog?
Do you think this habit might help you? It has already helped me.
What is your favourite habit from this link?

That is it for today guys. Hope you liked this blog. If I missed out anything please tell it to me in the comments below.

Running long runs just isn't my thing....

Yep... that is true. I hate long runs. It might be the fact that I don't have that much stamina, but still I was a disaster for me. I was walking the most time. Maybe next time onwards I could practice pacing myself and get more stamina. Maybe the problem was that I was running a lot before the race(since I am the sport captain).  Also I had just stand in the sun for more than 30 mins. By the way if you don't know me, I am Albin.

We had to run around 2-3 kms. Even though I was walking most of the time, I managed to be the first yr 8 boy to enter (I came first since there were only 2 boys 😅), and the 4th totally.

Here are some of the images of cross-country that happened yesterday.

That was my first and my last cross-country in YMS. That is because I only joined last year july. It has only been one year.

Well for cross-country is really hard for me.
What about you?
How will you perform in a 3km long run?

That is it for today... I hope you enjoyed this...
So bye....

Wanna know about me ???

What is up bloggers? Hope you guys are all doing well. Well if you ask me how I am feeling really well. Don't know who this "me" is? Well I am Albin, a year 8 at YMS. Lately I have been learning about the fact that who owns the images online. Also along with that I have learned a few things about myself that I didn't even know about.

Here are the few things that I didn't even know about myself.

We did all this so that we can learn copyright. It means that the images online is not ours. Someone owns it online. We need a permission to use it.  It is also important for us to add information and link of the creator of the image. The images I used is from unsplash. You can also check it out.

Well that blog was short. By the way do you like the cool images. I got it from Unsplash. There are link to the images under the my DLO.  Anyway I got a few questions for you.
 Which is your dream place?
Which is your favourite food?  [Tell me if it is butter chicken😉😉]
What is your favourite sport?

Well I have to wrap this blog up for today. But don't worry I will post more blogs that you can read. Until then
